Meet the Artist: Nicole Gill

My interest in art began at a very young age – I was always colouring, sketching, or scribbling on something. However, it wasn’t until Transition Year in secondary school that I truly fell in love with painting. I spent countless hours in the art room, gaining as much experience as I could. With encouragement from my teacher during my final years at school, I decided to pursue art further.

I went on to complete a Level 5 Art and Design course at Moate Business College, where I learned from excellent tutors and developed foundational skills that would carry me forward. From there, I progressed to Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), where I spent four years exploring various practices, mediums and techniques. However, painting quickly re-emerged as my primary focus. Over my final two years at LSAD, I concentrated on developing my painting practice, exhibiting work at venues including Limerick School of Art and Design, Munster Technological University Cork, and The People’s Museum in Limerick. Before graduating in 2024 with a Level 8 BA in Fine Art (Painting), I was honoured to have my work purchased by both the OPW for the State Art Collection and by Technological University of the Shannon for the TUS Permanent Collection.

Since graduating, I’ve continued to commit time each week to my painting practice, working toward building cohesive bodies of work for future exhibitions. My current practice remains strongly influenced by the daily commute I made to and from Limerick – long journeys through patchwork fields that form the visual identity of rural Ireland. This influence now defines my work; a patchwork style of painting that seeks to capture the essence of the Irish landscape by gathering fragments of everyday life and presenting them in a way that shifts the viewer’s perspective.

Inspired by the mundane and the familiar, my paintings romanticise the ordinary, transforming overlooked scenes from daily life into something reflective, storied, and visually rich.

Nicole’s artwork will be on display throughout the rest of this year. Come experience her beautiful paintings while enjoying our freshly prepared protein shakes and specialty coffee. Check out our full cafe menu and opening hours here.
